Asus recently unveiled their three new ZenFone 5 devices, two of which will arrive in the UK this 2018. Let us dive deeper and check out their latest flagship smartphone, and see how it can stand out with the rest of the competition.
The new ZenFone line up has three variants, Asus ZenFone Lite, ZenFone 5 and ZenFone 5Z, they cater to different group of users like ZenFone Lite is the most affordable from the three. ZenFone 5 is their mid-range device that is almost equivalent to OnePlus 5T. While the ZenFone 5Z is their premium flagship device, with Snapdragon 845 processor and a much higher RAM.
ZenFone 5 Design
The design is almost similar to iPhone X, Asus designed the ZenFone to have a near edge-to-edge display which isn’t new in the mobile phone market. Though it still makes the device appear like a mid-range which is what ZenFone 5 is targeted.
Asus also did a great job to make sure that notch that holds the front camera doesn’t compromise the usability, software and apps will not hinder your device.
Too bad that they didn’t include AMOLED display, the blacks aren’t as great in color and the devices doesn’t meet the HDR standards. The IPS display is still impressive, whites are clean and colors are vibrant and nice.
The edge-to-edge design makes the ZenFone 5 one of the most cool looking mid-range Android devices.
With ZenFone 5, it offers Sony IMX363 f/1.8 six-element lends and a secondary 8MP f/2.0 megapixel f/2.0 wide-angle rear lens. Asus made the minor changes so the rear camera can use both sensors to increase the control over the depth of field. It also has a ton of AI features into the camera.
ZenFone 5 and 5Z’s camera can automatically detect the type of photo that you are taking and will manually adjust its camera setings, Asus representative mention that the camera can detect 16 different types of photo under the headings of Nature, Sunrise, Food and Portrait.
Another cool feature is the intelligent gallery app, which tracks your edits of photos on the device and will eventually took the work for you automatically.
Asus isn’t the only one experimenting with the AI optimizations, HTC and Huawei has been reported to do the same as well. This could be the next big step to mobile devices that can help its users through AI.
